Post- or Wall-Mounted Rotary-Arm Wrapping

The 4100T-PM/WM pallet wrapper keeps pallet loads stationary while a powered rotary arm applies stretch film around them. Customers can select either a dedicated post-mount structure or a wall-mount arrangement to match the facility layout and available structural support.

Moreover, the mounting options reduce the amount of free-standing framework surrounding the wrapping area. Therefore, the 4100T-PM/WM can provide a practical solution when floor space, forklift access or existing building construction makes a larger free-standing frame undesirable.

Benefits of the 4100T-PM/WM Pallet Wrapper

  • Stationary load wrapping: The pallet remains on the facility floor during the complete cycle.
  • No machine-imposed weight limit: Instead, the floor and material-handling equipment determine practical capacity.
  • Two mounting configurations: Customers can select a floor-mounted support post or an approved structural wall.
  • Reduced framework: Consequently, the PM/WM design can preserve access around the wrapping area.
  • Up to 30 loads per hour: Actual production depends on load height, wrap counts and handling time.
  • Powered pre-stretch: Meanwhile, the film carriage improves film yield and containment consistency.
  • Simple electrical service: The standard machine operates on 115-volt power without compressed air.
  • Expandable configuration: Finally, extended frames, taller towers, film splitters and scale packages remain available.

4100T-PM/WM Pallet Wrapper Specifications

Production and Load Capacity

  • Production speed: Up to 30 loads per hour
  • Maximum machine-supported weight: Unlimited because the facility floor supports the pallet
  • Maximum load width: 50 inches
  • Maximum load length: 50 inches
  • Maximum load diagonal: 71 inches
  • Maximum load height: 86 inches

Although the machine does not impose a turntable weight rating, the floor, pallet and forklift must safely support the load. Therefore, Ameripak should review unusually heavy applications before finalizing the system.

Post-Mount and Wall-Mount Configurations

Post-Mount Configuration

The post-mount configuration uses a dedicated structural support anchored to the facility floor. As a result, it does not rely on an existing building wall to support the rotary-arm assembly.

A post-mounted system can work well when:

  • The wrapping location sits away from a suitable wall.
  • Facility construction cannot support a wall-mounted machine.
  • Future relocation may become necessary.
  • The application requires open access around several sides of the pallet.
  • A dedicated mounting foundation fits the facility layout.

However, Ameripak must verify the floor construction, anchoring requirements and complete arm-sweep clearance.

Wall-Mount Configuration

The wall-mount configuration attaches the rotary-arm structure to an approved building support. Consequently, it can reduce the equipment’s floor-level structure and preserve operating space around the pallet.

A wall-mounted system can work well when:

  • The wrapping station sits beside a suitable structural wall.
  • Floor space remains limited.
  • Forklift traffic benefits from fewer support posts.
  • The facility wants a permanent wrapping location.
  • Building construction can safely carry the operating loads.

Because ordinary partition walls may not provide adequate strength, Ameripak and Cousins must review the supporting structure before selecting the wall-mount configuration.

Powered Rotary-Arm System

The rotary arm travels around the stationary pallet while the film carriage moves vertically. Therefore, the load avoids the rotational force and movement associated with a turntable wrapper.

  • Arm support: A double-flange bearing system supports controlled rotation.
  • Drive arrangement: Twin V-belt pulleys include a belt tensioner.
  • Rotational speed: Operators can adjust the arm from 1–12 RPM.
  • Acceleration: Soft-start control reduces sudden movement at cycle startup.
  • Final positioning: Additionally, controlled deceleration provides positive stop alignment.
  • Arm motor: A 1/2 HP DC variable-speed motor powers rotation.
  • Dynamic braking: Finally, the braking system controls rotary-arm and carriage movement.

Powered Pre-Stretch Film Delivery

The 4100T-PM/WM pallet wrapper includes the Cousins Super Rapid Thread II™ 20-inch powered pre-stretch carriage. Its threading path increases film contact with the rollers and positions the film’s cling side toward the load.

  • Pre-stretch range: Fixed ratios extend from 33% to 313%.
  • Ratio adjustment: Simple sprocket changes match pre-stretch to the selected film.
  • Corner compensation: Additionally, electronic dynamic dancer control regulates film delivery around corners.
  • Carriage motor: A 1/2 HP AC variable-speed motor controls film output.
  • Rapid threading: The special device simplifies film-roll installation.
  • Safety interlock: Opening the Rapid Thread™ door interrupts carriage power.
  • Roller contact: Greater film coverage helps reduce slipping during operation.
  • Pre-stretch rollers: Finally, Cousins provides a lifetime warranty on the rollers.

Consequently, the film carriage supports repeatable containment while helping facilities control stretch-film consumption.

Film-Carriage Elevator

  • Elevator motor: A 1/2 HP AC variable-speed motor moves the carriage.
  • Drive system: A direct flat belt provides smooth vertical travel.
  • Guidance system: Twelve maintenance-free points keep the carriage aligned.
  • Speed adjustments: Meanwhile, independent raising and lowering controls determine film overlap.
  • Dynamic braking: Controlled stopping supports repeatable carriage positioning.

Programmable Wrapping Controls

Wrap-Pattern and Film Controls

The Panasonic PLC provides straightforward access to the semi-automatic wrapping functions.

  • Cycle start: A single button starts or pauses the automatic cycle.
  • Wrap direction: Operators can select an up-only or up-and-down pattern.
  • Starting position: In addition, the program can apply base wraps or top wraps first.
  • Top and bottom wraps: Separate settings provide from 1–9 revolutions.
  • Film tension: Force-to-load control adjusts containment pressure.
  • Carriage speed: Independent raising and lowering settings control overlap.
  • Rotary-arm speed: Variable control helps match movement to load stability.
  • Reinforcement: Finally, the mid-cycle reinforce function adds film to selected areas.

Operator and Safety Controls

  • Top-sheet pause: Operators can pause the cycle to apply a protective sheet.
  • Load-height detection: A triple-beam photo-eye recognizes dark or reflective products.
  • Manual arm movement: Additionally, the rotary-arm jog switch assists with setup.
  • Carriage positioning: Raise and lower controls allow manual adjustment.
  • Power functions: Off, on and reset controls include a power indicator.
  • Emergency stop: A dedicated button stops machine operation.
  • Control enclosure: The NEMA 12 panel protects industrial components.
  • Service components: Finally, non-proprietary UL/CSA-approved parts simplify maintenance.

Rotary-Arm Safety System

The 4100T-PM/WM includes an obstruction-sensitive emergency-stop device on the rotary arm. If the arm contacts an unexpected obstruction, the sensor stops rotation to help protect personnel, the load and the equipment.

However, the rotating arm still requires a controlled operating zone. Ameripak should review forklift traffic, pedestrian access, nearby machinery and required clearances before installation.

Optional side fences and a front sliding gate can further control access. Moreover, the optional gate interlock can prevent operation while personnel enter the wrapping area.

Electrical and Installation Requirements

Electrical Input

  • Voltage: 115 volts
  • Phase: Single phase
  • Frequency: 60 Hz
  • Amperage: 15 amps
  • Standard pneumatics: No compressed air required

The optional pallet-lock roping device requires compressed air. Cousins includes a filter/regulator and quiet compressor with that option unless the customer provides a suitable air source.

Site and Structural Review

Before installation, Ameripak should verify:

  • Floor construction and anchoring points
  • Wall structure when selecting wall mounting
  • Forklift or pallet-jack approach
  • Pallet orientation
  • Rotary-arm sweep clearance
  • Ceiling height
  • Pedestrian and vehicle traffic
  • Safety-fence placement
  • Electrical connection location

Therefore, a site layout and structural review can prevent interference with walls, columns, doors, conveyors or traffic aisles.

How the 4100T-PM/WM Wrapping Cycle Works

First, a forklift or pallet jack positions the load beneath the rotary arm. The operator then attaches the film tail and selects the appropriate wrap program. Next, the operator starts the automatic cycle.

Meanwhile, the photo-eye detects load height while the arm travels around the stationary pallet. The powered carriage applies film according to the selected wrap counts, overlap and tension. After the final revolution, the arm decelerates and returns to its aligned position. Finally, the operator cuts the film and removes the wrapped pallet.

Best Applications for Mounted Rotary-Arm Wrapping

The 4100T-PM/WM works particularly well when a facility wants stationary-load wrapping without a larger free-standing frame.

Typical applications include:

  • Heavy industrial components
  • Tall or top-heavy pallets
  • Lightweight products that may shift
  • Unstable or irregularly stacked goods
  • Fragile products
  • Bagged materials
  • Building products
  • Large containers
  • Loads with a high center of gravity

In particular, floor-supported wrapping can accommodate loads that exceed the capacities of many conventional turntables. However, the facility floor and material-handling equipment must still support the pallet safely.

Choosing Between PM, WM, FS3 and FSR

All four configurations keep the load stationary and use similar rotary-arm technology. However, their supporting structures create different installation requirements.

The PM configuration uses a dedicated floor-mounted post, while the WM configuration relies on an approved structural wall. In contrast, the 4100T-FS3 three-post pallet wrapper creates a self-supporting frame around the wrapping zone.

The 4100T-FSR rear-mount pallet wrapper concentrates its supporting structure toward the rear of the load area. Therefore, Ameripak should compare all available footprint drawings against the facility layout before selecting a mounting style.

Why Choose a Semi-Automatic Model?

The 4100T-PM/WM requires an operator to position the pallet, attach the film and cut the film after wrapping. Consequently, it offers powered rotary-arm consistency without the cost and complexity of automatic film handling.

This arrangement can make sense when pallet volume does not justify full automation or when operators already handle loads individually with forklifts. Moreover, the semi-automatic design provides greater flexibility for changing products and pallet sizes.
